Hello Gladys,
Last night in PBS we saw a wonderful 1 hour preentation narrated by Gloria Estefan on HAVANA: PORTARIT OF YESTERYEAR.
I was so mesmerized by the scenes and the interviews, as I was only 4 years old when I came to the US. I am finding that the older I get, the more I get closer to my roots. This from someone who as a teen did not want to be "Cuban". Times changes one's perspectives....
Anyway, it is once again being shown at 12 noon today and I will be taping it. Right after last night's show there was another on Celia Cruz and she was singing with "La India". Do you know of her? She had a very nice voice.
I will be going out today to check out that book on The Buena Vista Social Club and also purchasing the CD with my Mama. I especially like the music of Cha-Cha-Cha's and Danzones.
On the show were people who remembered Cuba and shared their memories... some of them were so choked up they couldn't answer at the end of the show when asked if they missed those days. That touched me immensely...but I enjoyed listening to their reminiscing of those beautiful halcycon days. That was some city, people walking about, cars driving around the Malecon, nightclubs, baseball games, just like here, a universe going about it's daily routines. Then Castro came and vanished everything with the snap of his fingers, unbelievable!!
