Tiffany, when you are picturing your reception, please remember that it is perfectly proper to limit it to cake and punch if your budget is tight. In my humble opinion, it's nicer to serve a smaller amount of something very good than a lot of something that is plainly cheap. Alternatively, accept help from everyone who offers it.

I'm sure the smart kitchen angels here at TRL can give you lots of ideas if you want to serve more than cake and punch. It would help to know what time your reception will be, about how many people you think might be there, what kind of kitchen facilities you will have on hand, and how much freezer space you can count on having in the month before the wedding.
