Not only do I cook up all my squash blossoms but I also use the blossoms from my pumpkins - they are just as good! I bring a bucket of cold water into the garden and soak the blossoms in the water before bringing them into the house - this gets rid of all the bees that are hiding in the blossoms! This recipe has been in my family for many years and is an Italian Specialty dish.
Fried Squash or Pumpkin blossoms
10-20 blossoms soaked in cold water and dried 2 eggs 1/2 cup milk salt & pepper 1/8 cup grated Pecorino Romano Cheese Flour Italian Flavored Bread Crumbs Oil for frying
Dredge the flowers in the flour mixed with salt & pepper.
Mix the eggs, milk, salt & pepper, and grated cheese. Coat the floured blossoms in the egg mixture and then coat in bread crumbs. Deep fry in oil until golden brown, turning if necessary. Drain on paper towels. enjoy!
