SWAMP WATER (LIKE A&W RESTAURANT)
2 parts A&W Root Beer 2 parts orange soda 1 part lemon-lime soda
Chill the sodas first -- this keeps the carbonation in. Pour into a small pitcher to mix. Serve very cold.
For proper flavor, it is important not to use any root beet other than A&W. It's unique flavor (reminds me of maple syrup) it what makes the Swamp Water. Just about any orange and lemon-lime sodas will do. I use Sunkist or Slice brand orange and Sprite. All of these sodas come in diet/sugar-free as well.
NOTES: This is a wonderful mixture of sodas that makes a great Halloween punch (due to its dirty brownish-orange color) with a bit of dry ice :) However, I drink it whenever I find A&W on sale.
The original concept was demonstrated to me by my friend, Guy Frechette, a talented artist from Canada, when I visited him one summer. He took me to an A&W fast-food restaurant and asked the server for "a pitcher of Swamp Water". I loved it. When I went for a refill, I saw what ingredients went into it. When I went home, I experimented with the proportions until I though I had it. The next time I saw Guy, I offered him a sample of my Swamp Water and he said he though it was a perfect match.
