Dave, While recently ordering a meal in Chicago, the waiter immediately picked up on my southern drawl and asked, "Would you like sweet tea with that?"
I make a gallon of sweet tea every day of my life and have for about the last 25 years. I use 2-3 family size tea bags, bring them to a boil in about 10 cups of water (a new, clean coffee pot works great for brewing tea), then turn the heat off and let the tea sit for about an hour. I then add 1 and 1/2 cups of sugar, the brewed tea, and finish filling the gallon pitcher with water. The tea never sits for more than a day because there are always neighbors to stop by for a break as they are walking in the neighborhood. I do keep my tea in the refrigerator. It can 'sour' if kept too long and has a tendency to become sweeter if kept into the second day. Some add lemon/mint/oranges, but we simply pour it over a big glass of ice.
Enjoy!
