Oh, how I loved them too. Now living in Delaware I will have to try this recipe. Last time I was in Baltimore there was still a little tavern on Eastern Ave and one out by the former GM plant.
KING BREAD HAWAIIAN SLIDERS (like Little Tavern hamburgers)
1/2 medium onion, finely diced 1 tablespoon butter 1 1/2 pounds ground beef salt and black pepper (to taste) 1 (12 oz) pkg Kings Hawaiian Rolls, steamed and sliced FOR SERVING (OPTIONAL): hamburger pickle slices mustard ketchup
Dice the onion and saute` with butter over low heat until translucent. Remove from heat and set aside.
Season the ground beef as desired. Divide into 12 small patties. Flatten patties to fit a little large than size of King's Hawaiian Roll (patty will shrink when cooked).
Before frying patties, place the sauteed onions into the bottom of the pan, place patties over onions and press patties down firmly with spatula. This allows the onions to cook into patty. Fry over medium heat until done.
Pull apart rolls. Slice in half, steam-warm (if desired), place patty between each roll and serve.
