This is a perfect fall/winter recipe that can replace the traditional chili over football routine. To make the experience a little more worthwhile, I double up on the ingredients and freeze most of the final product.
To make this dish more of a meal and less of a sidedish, I've found that you can increase the amount of meat and vegetables which will make for a less soupy and more hearty meal. Here are a few suggestions that I would make: first, go with Bush's "original" recipe beans, I tried the "homestyle" and it wasn't the same. Secondly, I triple up on the jalepenos to add a little pep to it.
On a side note, Menard's (of all places) sells Famous Dave's BBQ sauce for $2.27 - much cheaper than driving out to the suburbs or ordering online. Also, if you're in Chicago, go to Peoria butcher on Lake street to pick up all 3 meats used in this recipe. |
