Okay, so the only thing I did different is I separated the eggs into the mixing bowl and added the sugar/cocoa/flour/salt mixture to the egg whites instead of the eggs. I mixed it all til moist and then beat it on high for the minute and a half just like it said. What came out of the oven 20 minutes later tasted fine and actually were quite pretty, but looked nothing like the pictures I've seen of chocolate chewies. Mine looked like they'd been glazed with chocolate shiny icing -- only it was dry to the touch. They seemed like a sandwich cookie with a filling of a somewhat gooey cookie center between two layers of crisp, light baked chocolate merangue. Actually, I would take them proudly to anybody's tea or bridal shower, but they sure don't look like the pictures. It's possible that the fact that I used those double layer air-filled cookie sheets under the parchment instead of regular cookie sheets. Can anybody spot where I went wrong?
