Some Yankee mothers made it with corned beef mine made it with a ham, we ate it for days.
I recently discoved a bagged brand of fresh mixed soup/stew vegetables, usually has items like 1 turnip, 1 leek, a few sprigs of fresh herbs, parsnip, carrots, celery etc...This recipe fits inside the 1 qrt crockette, the other is the one i use for the pressure cooker.
NEW ENGLAND BOILED DINNER FOR 1 (crockette)

5-6 baby carrots
4 boiling onions
1 celery stalk
1 small turnip
[half a parsnip and or leek or potato]
sprig of parsley
peppercorns
1/4 cabbage
1/2 lb of a 1" ham steak
water

DIRECTIONS
Dice herbs and vegetables and put on bottom of crockette.
Put ham & cabbage on top.
add water to just under the ham
(the ham & cabbage will release more water)
cook 6-8 hours.

If cooked longer than 8 horus, the ham may fall apart.

NEW ENGLAND BOILED DINNER FOR TWO

INGREDIENTS
1 dinner ham steak about ¾" thick.
1 small savoy cabbage or half of larger
3 carrots
2 small purple top turnips.
2 small potatoes.
1 onion.
Pepper corns
Water to cover.

TOOLS
soup pot or pressure cooker

DIRECTIONS
Cut steak in 2 or 3 pieces depending on size.
slice carrot & turnip roughly
quarter onion , potato and cabbage
Place in stew pot or pressure cooker.
cover all ingreds with water,
Simmer about 30 minutes or until potatoes are cooked through.
