Sundried Italian Herb Bread alt.cooking-chien/Rich B (1999)
This is a very tasty bread that you can make in your bread machine. Serve it warm or toasted and it also makes great grilled cheese sandwiches. It goes great with any Italian dish.
For a 1 1/2 pound loaf:
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast 1/2 cup buttermilk (room temp) 3/4 cup water (room temp) 1 tsp lemon juice 2 tbsp dark brown sugar 2 tbsp unsalted butter (room temp) 3 cups bread flour 1 tsp salt --------- 6 slices sundried tomato, diced (not packed in oil) 1 1/2 tbsp Italian herb blend (or use the garlic and herbs listed below): 1/2 tsp garlic powder and minced onion 3/4 tsp marjoram leaves, thyme leaves, leaf rosemary, oregano leaves, basil leaves and savory 1/2 tsp rubbed sage
Add ingredients in the proper order for your machine. Select white bread setting; medium crust or normal baking cycle. I add spices and tomatoes when machine beeps after initial mixing cycle.
