from Rhein Main USO "Always Home" cookbook

1 cup diced bacon
1/2 lb cubed pork
1/2 lb cubed beef
5 onions, chopped
1 carrot, sliced
1 green pepper, chopped
1 16 oz. can peeled tomatoes
1 TBS butter or bacon drippings
salt, to taste
Paprika, to taste
Caraway seed, optional to taste
celery root, to taste
Dry red wine (she used 3/4 of a bottle!)
1 clove garlic, minced
5 medium potatoes, diced
2 tsp tomato paste
1 tsp Better than Bouillon

Fry diced bacon in a hot skillet. Add the meats and brown. Add half the red wine and bring to a boil. Fry onions in butter or bacon drippings in a larger pot. Add browned meat mixture. Add garlic, carrot and can of tomatoes. Add spices to taste. Add pepper, tomato paste, Better than Bouillon and as much water as you want. Simmer for 45 minutes. Add potatoes, peeled and diced. Cook another 20 minutes, adding wine for flavor.
