CHOCOLATE APPLE BREAD
1 cup plus 2 tsp sugar, divided 3/4 tsp cinnamon, divided 2 cups finely chopped walnuts, divided 2 cups flour 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp nutmeg 1/2 cup butter, softened 2 eggs 1 tsp vanilla 2 tbsp buttermilk 1 cup apples, peeled and chopped coarsely 1 cup semi sweet chocolate morsels
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
Combine 2 tsp sugar, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, and 1/4 cup walnuts and set aside.
Mix flour, salt, baking powder, soda, remaining cinnamon and nutmeg. Set aside.
Cream butter and remaining sugar. Add eggs and then vanilla. Gradually add flour mixture alternating with buttermilk.
Fold in apples and chocolate chips. Pour into prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle with reserved nut and sugar mixture.
Bake at 350 for 50-60 minutes. Cool 15 minutes in pan then remove to wire rack to finish cooling.
Makes 1 loaf
