Caramel-Apple French Toast Recipe By : Victorian Dreams Bed and Breakfast Sevierville (Gatlinburg area), Tennessee Serving Size : 4
4 slices Challah bread -- (1-1/2 inches thick) 3 eggs 1/2 cup milk 2 Tbsp sugar 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 cup butter 3 golden delicious apples -- peeled and cut into 8 wedges each 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup cream 1/8 tsp pumpkin pie spice
Heat oven to 200 degrees. With a biscuit cutter, cut 3 to 4 inch circles from each piece of bread. Discard remainder.
Beat eggs with milk, sugar, and salt until combined. Soak bread in mixture 3 to 4 minutes, turning once. Heat 2 Tbsp of the butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Cook bread 2 minutes per side, until golden. Keep warm in oven.
Add remaining butter to skillet. Saute apples over medium heat 5 to 7 minutes, until tender. Add brown sugar, cream and spice. Continue cooking 6 to 8 minutes until thickened.
Arrange French toast on serving dishes. Top with caramel apples. For dessert; serve with vanilla ice cream.
