BERRIES KIR ROYALE Serves 2 (can be doubled or tripled)
2 cup strawberries, halved 1 tbsp sugar 1/2 cup Champagne, chilled 1 tbsp Creme de cassis Nutmeg hearts (recipe follows)
Mix strawberries and sugar in medium bowl. Let stand 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Divide between 2 large wine glasses. Pour 1/4 cup Champagne and 1/2 tablespoon cassis into each glass.
Serve with Nutmeg Hearts.
NUTMEG HEARTS Makes about 16 cookies
1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed (half of 17 1/4-oz package) 2 tbsp sugar 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Roll pastry out on lightly floured surface to 11- by 14-inch rectangle. Using 3- to 4-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out hearts. Transfer to cookie sheet.
Combine sugar and nutmeg in bowl. Sprinkle over hearts.
Bake until cookies are puffed and golden brown, about 15 minutes. Transfer to rack and cool. (Can be made 1 day ahead. Store airtight.)
