GRANDMA'S MOLASSES CRINKLES

1 cup sugar
1 cup Crisco vegetable shortening
1 egg
1/4 cup Grandmas molasses
2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves or allspice
2 tsp. ginger
more sugar for rolling

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Cream sugar, Crisco, egg, and molasses together. Add remaining ingredients. If necessary, chill dough until easy to handle.

Shape pieces of dough into walnut-size balls and roll in granulated sugar. Place 2-inches apart on ungreased baking sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees 8-10 minutes or until brown around the edges.
