Chocolate-Chip Party Mix
Source: Woman's Day; Gifts from the Christmas Kitchen, 1994
Makes about 15 cups

9 cups wheat, rice, or corn oven-toasted cereal squares
2 cups shredded coconut (optional)
1 cup peanuts
1 cup packed light-brown sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 package (12 oz) Nestle Toll House semisweet chocolate morsels (2 cups)
1 1/2 cups raisins

Preheat oven to 250 degrees. In large, shallow roasting pan, combine cereal, coconut and peanuts. In medium-sized, heavy saucepan over medium heat, bring brown sugar, butter and corn syrup to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil 5 minutes without stirring. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla and baking soda. Pour over cereal mixture; stir until well coated. Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Cool mixture completely in pan, stirring frequently to break apart. When cool, stir in chocolate morsels and raisins. Store in airtight containers.
