1. Ribbon Sandwich One loaf unsliced sandwich loaf. This must be ordered from the bakery 2 or 3 days before you plan to serve it. Slice the bread the long way. First in half and then each piece in half again. Fill each layer with a different filling. We used ham salad, chicken salad, and egg salad. When you have completed making the sandwich, wrap it in wax paper, then wrap it in a wet dish towel. Put in refrigerator overnight. Before serving, frost with a frosting made of cream cheese thinned with milk so you can spread it. Slice and serve.
2. Ribbon sandwich loaf Remove crusts from loaf of bread and cut into 4 equal lengthwise slices. Spread with soft butter. Cover the first slice with shredded lettuce and mayonnaise. Cover the second slice with chopped egg salad and the third with deviled ham. Put layers together and top with fourth slice. Press together, wrap in damp cloth and chill under weight. An hour before serving, spread loaf with 3 packages of cream cheese mashed and softened with cream or mayonnaise. Chill before serving. |
