Pecan Pie Bars

1 package yellow cake mix -- reserve 2/3
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter -- softened
1 1/2 cups corn syrup
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup pecans -- chopped
3 eggs
2/3 cup reserved cake mix

Grease 9x13 pan generously. Set side reserved 2/3 cup cake mix. In large bowl, mix butter, 1 egg and remaining cake mix until crumbly. Press into pan and bake at 350 for 15 to 20 minutes. In large bowl, combine all remaining ingredients, beat at medium speed 1 to 2 minutes. Pour over crust and sprinkle with nuts. Return to oven and bake 30 to 35 minutes until filling is set. Cool and cut into bars.
