Grandma Jones' Oatmeal Cookies Newsgroup posting by Laurence Kriv Makes about 5 dozen
Finally got the recipe from my Mom. This is her mother's recipe.
1/2 cup oleo (margarine) 1/2 cup shortening (Crisco) 1 cup sugar 2 eggs (whole) 5 Tbsp milk (sweet) 1/2 tsp salt (scant) 1 tsp cloves 2 tsp cinamon 1/2 tsp soda, dissolved in water 2 cups flour (white) 2 cups raw oats (straight, uncooked, right out of the box) 1 cup golden rasins* 1 cup chopped nuts
Cream shortenings and sugar. Add eggs & milk. Add salt, cloves, and cinnamon. Add soda. Mix flour and oats together and add to batter. Add nuts (* and washed and chopped raisins - if wanted). Mix everything very well! Drop by teaspoonful onto greased (Pam) pan. Bake in moderate oven (350 deg. F) 12-15 min. Enjoy!
These tend to bake just as you drop them on the cookie sheet. They don't spread out much, if at all. So, they end up shaped like little mounds instead of flat, round cookies. I guess you could flatten them out somehow, but the dough is sticky. |
