Mix in Pan Brownies

2/3 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup dry unsweetened cocoa
1/2 cup nuts, chopped*
1/2 cup raisins*
*You may use either nuts, or raisins or both as you like.
In an 8-inch square baking pan heat shortening over low heat until melted. Stir in sugar. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
In a small bowl break eggs; add vanilla; beat until blended. Add to the sugar mixture in baking pan.
Place dry ingredients in a sifter. Sift into baking pan. Mix well with a fork. Add nuts and/or fruit. Smooth top.
Bake in a 350 degree F. oven 30 minutes. Cool.
