Espresso Syrup (automatic drip coffeemaker recipe)
Alt.coffee/Steven M. Chilcote (1997)
Makes 16-20 oz. syrup

4 oz. espresso beans
3 cups water (preferably filtered)
1 cups brown sugar
1 Tablespoons vanilla or other extract (optional)

Grind 4 oz. of espresso beans as you would for ADC. Fill filter basket with ground coffee and level grounds by lightly spreading with finger (4 oz. ground coffee just fills a #4 cone filter). Put 3 cups water into machine and brew coffee. This should produce ~ 16 oz. of "espresso" coffee. Mix hot coffee with brown sugar and extract (optional). Put in storage container and store in refrigerator.

REVIEW: I developed this recipe from a recipe that used espresso powder. First time I made it, I used real espresso rather than powder and liked it. Second time I made it I used espresso powder. HATED IT! I just recently made two 24 oz. containers that I am giving away as Christmas presents using the above method. I can barely distinguish it from the syrup I made with real espresso and it is a lot easier. I hope you enjoy it. If you like Starbucks Frappaccinos, just mix this with milk. It's a lot cheaper.
