Recipe: Amish Cookies (makes 7 1/2 dozen)

Desserts - Cookies, Brownies, Bars
AMISH COOKIES

2 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/8 cups shortening
3 eggs
2/3 cup dark molasses
1 cup sour milk
6 1/2 cups flour
2 Tbsp. baking powder
3 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
2 Tbsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
2 cups oatmeal, uncooked
1 cup raisins
3/4 cup chopped peanuts or walnuts

Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and beat well. Add milk and molasses alternately with sifted dry ingredients.

Add oatmeal, raisins, and nuts. Mix with hands. Drop by teaspoons onto greased baking sheets.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 8-10 minutes.

Makes 7 1/2 dozen cookies
