Recipe: Hungarian Chicken Soup - as I recall my grandmother making it on Buckeye Rd, Cleveland

Soups
I recall watching and asking my grandmother about making chicken soup.

One ingredient that others have not listed that she used was a few pieces of ginger root. Once the water boiled she would lower the heat, scim off the scum and then add a bit of cold water each time she did this.

The broth was always served alone with homemade 1.5mm wide egg noodles which were always placed on a towel and draped over a chair to dry.

I do not recall a tomato being used.

She always insisted on using an old hen and that it what i look for today. I will toss one on the stove tomorrow.

Anyway, Hungarian chicken soup is always the best and my grandmother was a wonderful cook.
