re: How Big is a Small Onion - Reply to BG/Chicago

Misc.
Dear BG,

I think of a small onion as about the size of a grocery-store Eureka lemon. I think of a medium onion as an orange and a large onion as a grapefruit. Most of the time the amount of onion isn't crucial (unless you're making something like French onion soup, for example). If I don't have a small onion I chop up what I have and hope for about 1/2 cup.

I was in Safeway the other day and they're getting these Huge onions! I've never seen them so big. In fact, I couldn't even find small onions recently. Are you getting the same thing in Chicago? I suspect this time of year they're all flown in from Central or South America.

Have a good day!

Marilyn

P.S. to Micha -- I didn't see your reply until I finished typing this. You have a good day too!
