Recipe: Rowan Berry substitute

This is an old recipe for pyracantha jelly that perhaps you can adapt for rowan berries

3 cups pyracantha berries
6 cups water
juice of one lemon
juice of 1 medium grapefruit
1 pkg powdered pectin
4 1/2 cups sugar.

Wash and stem berries. In a pan, bring the berries and water to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes. Stir in the lemon and grapefruit juice. Strain, but do not squeeze, through a fine cloth or several thicknesses of cheesecloth. You should have 4 1/2 cups juice. Return the juice to pan and stir in pectin. Place over high heat and stir until mixture comes to a full rolling boil. Add sugar, stirring constantly, bring to a boil; continue to boil for 2 mins. Remove from heat, skim off foam and pour into hot, sterilized jars and seal.
