I'm looking for a recipe of the banana bread that Cookies Steakhouse used to serve with all of the meals. The restaurant were located in Hempstead and Huntington, LI. There may have been a few more but if anyone can help me it will be great. Thank You !!

This recipe was printed in Newsday newspaper about 35-40 years ago! My mother clipped it out and made it often. I have since inherited her recipes. ENJOY!

Thank You So Much!!!! It was very nice of you to take the time out and send this to me. I remember going there as a kid with my Mom and brothers for special occasions and how much fun we had. And now that we are scattered all over the place it will be great to share this with my son and try to make some great memories with him. I'm sure he'll laugh at all of the stories I tell him. HAPPY HOLIDAYS! to you and your family. Lorraine

Hey, thanks for the banana bread recipe! After travelling to many places that claim to make the best banana breads, I must say, nothing compares to Cookies banana bread.
After trying MANY different recipes, i finally came up with something that I think compares.

5 seriously over ripe bananas (must be black!)
1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, room temperature
2 eggs
2 tablespoons molasses
1 teaspoon real vanilla extract
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup finely grated cinnamon graham crackers
1 cup granulated sugar
2 packets banana bread flavored oatmeal, also finely grated
1 to 2 tablespoons baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 F.

First combine all the wet ingredients in a bowl. I used a potato masher to mix the bananas, butter, molasses, eggs, and vanilla.

In another bowl, I combined all the dry ingredients and slowly added it to the wet mixture. I used a whisk to combine the dry ingredients.

I poured the batter in a 9x9 inch cake pan and let it bake for 30 minutes.

Yum Yum Yum!

I also have a photocopy of the recipe from the NY Daily News in the 1980's which came directly from Sonia Rachelson of Cooky's. I've made it many times using this recipe and it comes out very moist. It is almost the same as your recipe, but my copy calls for 1 1/3 cups mashed bananas, 1 cup of chopped walnuts and 1 3/4 cup flour. Bake for 50 minutes.
