Recipe: Vintage Recipe Clippings: Mary and Carmen's Collection

Recipe Collections
Hello Everyone!

For all of you that have been enjoying recipes being posted from Faith's Collection (for anyone that hasn't seen it, here is the link: Faith's Collection Info and Recipes), I have another treasure trove of recipes to share with you, collected over the years by Mary and Carmen in Wichita, Kansas. I purchased the collection from Carmen's daughter and sadly, her mother had passed away. It includes a large box of recipe clippings and handwritten recipes collected by Carmen along with a notebook of recipes that Carmen inherited from her neighbor, Mary (Mary was 90 years old when she passed away in 1999, many of the recipes in the notebook are very old).

Mary and Carmen's Recipe Collection:

Mary's Notebook:

So, my work now begins (what a fun job!) to get selections from "Mary and Carmen's Recipe Collection" to you. My goal is to post some recipes from these ladies every day. It is going to be difficult to tell exact dates on most of the recipes so I'm going to take my best guess. I'm keeping their recipes together because I have a feeling that as neighbors they contributed to each others collections (I like to picture them sitting at the kitchen table or on the front porch chatting). But if a recipe comes from Mary's notebook I'll note that in the source below the recipe, i.e.: From: Mary's Notebook, Mary and Carmen's Recipe Collection at Recipelink.com

I thought you'd enjoy what Mary pasted on the first page of her recipe notebook (I like her sense of humor):

To "Love and Honor" are
Okay,
And one might promise to
Obey,
But what makes wives turn
Slowly gray,
Is what to cook each blessed
Day!
