I am a formerly from Pittsburgh Pa - I am looking for the recipe for the icing from Barkus Bakery (we had them every birthday)- smooth creamy but not overly sweet. Any help is greatly appreciated. thank you Mary

Recipe: Vanilla Icing (similar to Barkus Bakery)

Halyna -- NY

VANILLA ICING (SIMILAR TO BARKUS BAKERY)

"This is so close to Barkus Bakery."

1 cup Crisco vegetable shortening
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups granulated sugar
6 tbsp. flour
1 cup milk
2 tsp. vanilla
Dash of salt

Beat 15 minutes.

Thank you for finding this recipe Halyna. It would be interesting to know if the instructions work as written, but the ingredients are similar to other frostings where the flour and milk is cooked and cooled before being beaten into the other ingredients. Here are some examples:
