Dear Linda,
This is not a true "teacake", as southerners know them.... a TRUE teacake is more like a "madeleine", only not poured in a "mold"...my mother in law tells me (she's a "true" southerner that "nobody ever had a "recipe" for teacakes, you just made up your own", I understand from my mother-in-laws oldest sister, Audrey,(who is now 85...(and doing pretty darn good (still cooks) that she was the "watch mama" and learn how to make them...however, I know they used to cook with "lard" a lot (which makes for a really tender, flaky product) (that kills you, by the way...), but every once in a while I buy a pound of the stuff, and give my husband some real old fashioned biscuits (which took years to perfect), because my mother in law taught me by the ole "WATCH ME" SCHOOL OF COOKING!!!
Anyway, that's a long answer..but you're right..
P.S. My strategy in using that name was because it had familiarity with all southerners so much...I thought I might get by with it...I sold literally thousands of these cookies..and a lot of people said "those taste just like my mama's (or grandma's)...or whoever!!! The thing is...they're Darn good!!!!
P.S. I love to use "I can't believe it's not Butter" in these cookies.
