Recipe(tried): Gooey Shoe- Fly pie

Hi Jamie, I am of mennonite decent My husband of Amish decent, He has relitives in the bellville Pa area where there are lots of amish I am from Lancaster co. Here is a recipe for
Gooey shoe-fly pie
Syrup:
1 cup molasses
1/2cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1cup hot water
1tsp. soda dissolved in hot water
Crumbs:
2 cups flour
3/4cup brown sugar
1/3 cup lard ( this could could be substituded for shortenin )
Put half of surup in pie crust, then add half of crumbs. Add remaining syrup and other half of crumbs. Bake 10 minutes at 400 reduce heat to 350 for 50 minutes. Makes enough for 2 pies.
I typed this as it is givin in a cook book from that area. I hope this helps you out .
