Recipe(tried): Ruth Sickler's Homemade Tomato Soup (Grandma's Tomato Soup)
SoupsThis is my grandma's homemade soup recipe. I've never made it myself, but I've watched her make it several times. If you want thinner soup, you can substitute tomato juice for the tomatoes.
Ruth Sickler's Homemade Tomato Soup
4 Tbsp. butter, melted
4 Tbsp. flour
1 large can tomatoes or quart of fresh tomatoes, cut up
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. pepper
4 cups milk
Melt butter in saucepan and add flour; mix together well.
Puree tomatoes in blender. Add to butter-flour mixture and cook together for a few minutes.
Add salt, baking soda, and pepper. Will foam up.
Then add the milk. Heat until hot and serve.
