Recipe(tried): Steve re: grape leaves

Since no one responded to your question about using grape leaves in pickles . . . I had heard and read that they do help with pickle crispness so I started putting one in the bottom of my pickle jar several years ago (esp. since I have a large vine just outside the back door). My personal feeling is that they help.

I, too, wondered about whether it's a good idea to put a leaf in a canning jar, but I figured that they can't be any harder to clean than a cucumber. I've never had a problem.
