TOTO'S ITALIAN COOKIES
4 cups flour
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
4 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons ground cloves
1 cup Crisco vegetable shortening
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 cup walnuts, chopped
3/4 cup milk
Frosting (recipe follows)
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Lightly grease cookie sheets.
Mix together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and cloves; set aside.
Cream shortening and sugar together; add eggs, nuts, milk, and flour mixture Mix well. Dough should be dry to the touch.
Shape into round balls and place on greased cookie sheets.
Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Frost.
FROSTING
2 sticks (1 cup) margarine, softened
1 1/2 pounds confectioner's sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
8 to 10 tablespoons evaporated milk
Cream margarine, confectioner's sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla, cloves, and cinnamon together. Add milk as need for spreading consistency and mix until smooth.
