ISO: More basket cleaning questions

Misc.
I read your idea of using a brush(s) for cleaning baskets, however, mine had been in the kitchen and the normal kitchen junk on them. Can the baskets be rinsed somehow in mild soapy solution? They are NOT expensive, just sentimental. Any help would be appreciated.
