Recipe(tried): Bougainvilla Advice
Misc.Dear Edna,
I can understand your concern being that it is coming along beautifully. But, remember, with bouganvilla, the more it gets cut down, the stronger and bushier it will come back. Here in Florida, when winter arrives we tend to cover the bush up when there are frost warnings on TV. The cold weather will "burn" the tender leaves. In a couple of days ll the leaves will turn a soggy mess of black. Thus, we cover or cut to protect them.
If ther is going to be real cold weather and snow, then I would cut it down and place the bucket over it. It will go dormant and in Spring re-bloom for you.
Good Luck! Gina
