Recipe: Snowflakes & Shadows

SNOW FLAKES

Time: 12-15 minutes Temp: 350 degrees

1 cup shortening
1 3-ounce pkg. cream cheese
1 cup sugar
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon finely grated orange rind
2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Cream the shortening and cheese well. Add sugar gradually and continue creaming.
Beat in egg yolk, vanilla extract and orange rind.
Sift flour with salt and connamon
Add to creamed mixture
Fill a MIRRO cooky press
Form fancy cookies on ungreased MIRRO aluminum cookysheets
Decorate with colored sugar, cinnamon sugar or chopped almonds. Bake.
Remove at once from sheets. Cool on wire cake racks

Yield: 6-7 dozenSHADOWS

Bake: 12-15 minutes Temp: 375 degrees

2 sq. unsweetened chocolate (2 oz.)
1/3 cup shortening
6 oz. cream cheese
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon instant coffee

Melt chocolate over hot water. Cool.
Cream shortening and cream cheese thoroughly; add sugar and blend well, then add chocolate.
Add egg and vanilla.
Sift together all dry ingredients and gradually add to creamed mixture.
Fill a MIRRO cooky press, and form on an ungreased MIRRO aluminum cooky sheet.

Yield: 5 dozen
