Lots of opinions on this one

Misc.
Hey Lynn, OK, I'll start by saying that I have a BS in Nutrition and Food Science and I had an older teacher in "Foods 2" and she always taught us to "pour hot grease down the disposal with the disposal on and COLD water running". Run it for a minute or two and forget about it. Now I've done this for 10 years and have never had a problem. Of course, I'm not going to empty a "Fry Daddy" into the disposal...I'd go dump that somewhere ugly...but as far as bacon drippings and frying things in a saute' pan...I've done it and have never had a problem...However, I live in the city and have a sewer system. If you live in the country and are on a septic system things are different...I wouldn't do it. My Mother and Mother in Law ALWAYS Cringe when I empty grease into my sink...But I always think of my 70 something "Foods 2" teacher and DO IT ANYWAY!!!!
Good Luck! Jill
