Quorn

Misc.
Hi jackie

yes, you are quite right - it is mushroom based but you wouldn't know if from the flavour. As i said before, most quorn products come as stuff you can cook - burger, sausages etc rather than tvp which you tend to use as part of something else (e.g bolognaise) so in alot of ways, they already have their own flavours which is a far cry from the nasty nut roasts available in the 70's/80's. You can even get what i call 'fake ham' and 'fake chicken' slices now made from Quorn. The range is so wide now. Another great thing is quorn chunks which i've used to make 'chicken' in white wine sauce and rice, with. I will make some enquiries for you and see if i could find out how you would get hold of the products. Problem is, supply and demand and i think that the u.k has a much larger vege population than the u.s and this may well explain why we have such a good range of vege alternatives. You can even get things like 'Quorn en croute' now which i think is really amazing (you know, like chicken in pastry with sauce?)I do think it makes life very difficult if you can only buy these products in a health food shop and gives the whole vege thing a status not always appreciated - as my partner says when we go to functions 'i don't want to be different from everyone else!' Quite right, we all want to feel accepted :)As i said, i'll try to find out and also have a look on the packets to see if you could write to the company.
