mother of vinigar-a stringy,gummy, slimy substanceformed by bacteria
in vinigar; used as a starter to make vinigar. It is essential to the vinigar.
We probably don't see it it commercial vinigars much because they
pat\sturise and distill them. We had thick "mothers" on the vinigar we
accidentaly made in our celler. We also had to dilute it before using.
