Recipe: Cuban Frita Burgers

CUBAN FRITA BURGERS
1/2 cup plain dry bread crumbs
1/4 cup milk
1 pound ground beef round
1 small onion, finely chopped, divided use
1 large egg
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoons ketchup
1 teaspoon sweet paprika
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
TO SERVE:
dinner rolls
potato sticks (optional)
Combine bread crumbs and milk in a small mixing bowl and set aside.
Gently mix beef, half the onion, egg, garlic, ketchup, paprika, salt, pepper, cumin and oregano in a medium-size mixing bowl. Fold in bread crumb mixture and mix thoroughly. Form into 8 patties, each a little less than 1/2-inch thick.
Lightly oil grill or skillet over medium-high heat, and cook burgers to desired degree of doneness, 2-4 minutes per side for medium.
TO SERVE:
Serve on dinner rolls, two per person. Top burgers with remaining chopped onion, and potato sticks (yes, the kind from the can), if you like.
