Recipe: Date Orange Shortbread Bars (using sweetened condensed milk)

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup powdered sugar
3/4 cup butter or margarine, cut up
1 egg
1 (14-ounce) can Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk (NOT evaporated milk)
1 teaspoon grated orange peel
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 (10-ounce) package Sunsweet Dates, chopped
1/2 cup chopped Diamond Pecans
Heat oven to 3 75 degrees F.
In bowl, combine flour and sugar. With pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in butter until crumbly. Press on bottom of 13 x 9 inch baking pan.
Bake 15 minutes or until edges begin to brown.
In bowl, lightly beat egg. Stir in sweetened condensed milk, orange peel and vanilla. Stir in dates and pecans. Spread mixture over crust.
Bake 25 minutes or until golden. Cool.
Cut into bars. Store in refrigerator.
Makes 24 bars
