Recipe(tried): Heart Shaped Cake

Misc.

How about making a heart shaped cake. You can do this with large pans for one large cake or use small pans for individual cakes. Use any cake recipe or cake mix. White works well for Valentine color. Pour mix in one large round cake pan and one large square pan. Bake as directed. After cooled, cut the round cake in half, remove cake from square pan and place onserving plate with square points pointed like a diamond, then place one half of round cake on top right side and then top left side. Surprise, a heart shaped cake! Frost with favorite frosting. If making individual cakes don't tell the children how the two shapes are going to make one heart. While the ckes are baking have them cut out on paper the square and round pan shapes from paper. Then tell them it is possible to make a heart with just these shapes. Let them experiment and try to creat the shape.
(check to see that the square pan and round pan will match up evely. Sometimes you have to use a rectangle shape pan and cut to fit dinension of round pan.)
This is lots of fun for the children to do. This way they have an activity to do as well as there snack!

Happy Valentines Day!
