Recipe: Homemade Liqueurs - Almond, Coffee, Orange, Chocolate, and Anise (Karo, 1981)
BeveragesALMOND LIQUEUR
1 cup Karo light corn syrup
1 cup sugar
1 pint vodka
1 1/2 tablespoons almond extract
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup whole almonds
In 1-quart saucepan stir together corn syrup and sugar. Stirring occasionally, bring to boil over medium heat. Remove from heat. Let stand 15 to 20 minutes.
Stir in vodka. Stir in almond extract and vanilla. Pour into glass container. Add nuts.
Cover tightly. Let stand 2 days to develop flavor.
VARIATIONS:
COFFEE LIQUEUR:
Follow recipe for Almond Liqueur. Omit almond extract and almonds. Stir 3 tablespoons freeze-dried coffee into 3 tablespoons hot water. Add with vodka.
ORANGE LIQUEUR:
Follow recipe for Almond Liqueur. Omit almond extract and almonds. Add 1 to 1 1/2 tablespoons orange extract and peel from 1 orange.
CHOCOLATE LIQUEUR:
Follow recipe for Almond Liqueur. Omit almond extract and almonds. Add 2 tablespoons chocolate extract.
ANISE LIQUEUR:
Follow recipe for Almond Liqueur. Omit almond extract and almonds. Add 2 teaspoons anise extract and peel from 1 lime.
Makes about 1 quart
