Recipe(tried): Houston's Hawaiian Ribeye Marinade and ISO: old Hawaiian Steak recipe
Toppings - Rubs and MarinadesI did business with Houston's for many years (sold them beef and poultry). I always thought (and so did everyone I know) that their Hawaiian steak had great flavor. That was 1987---mid to late 1990's.
I've had the steak over the last few years and it's not the same--ok-- but not as good. I used to have the recipe and, although it wasn't quite the same when I cooked it, it was really close.
I've seen many recipes over the last year but it must be the current recipe, not the one from the 80s and 90s. The old one was a tad sweeter.
If there's any old Houston's kitchen mgrs or anyone else that thinks they might have it, "please" pass it on- I'm going crazy!!
This one is close but brown sugar seems more right. The old ribeye was a little different than the one they make now. Could there have been molasses in it?
13 oz. soy sauce
13 oz. sugar
6 oz. apple cider vinegar
6 oz. pineapple juice
1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons granulated garlic
1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons ground ginger
