I have tried this with an old (1930's old) chest-of-drawers, fireplaces, washing machines, and closets before and it works great.
The only concern I have is that I have NOT tried it on fabrics. This could be time consuming, BUT it will be worth the effort if you want to try to save your quilts.
You may want to try it on a small patch first to make sure the quilts won't be damaged.
Get a new 24oz spray bottle and put one part white vinegar to three parts distilled water - something like 6oz vinegar to 18oz of water. Make sure the nozzle is tightened enough that you get a good spray, instead of a stream. Hang a quilt on the clothes line, backing side up, and mist a small area to test first. Check it in a couple of hours to see if it is dried and hopefully odor free. Make sure no color has been damaged and proceed to a little bigger area. Repeat drying process. If all goes well, mist entire quilt back. Repeat process with front side, being very careful to check for any color changes.
Maybe you could also check quilt shops in your area for help.
Good luck,
Patty T
