This might be what you are looking for. This is a recipe my grandmother always used and has been handed around the family for many years.
POTATO SALAD DRESSING
Mix together:
3 large eggs
1 to 2 tablespoons vinegar (cider vinegar if you don't have white)
Salt and pepper (to taste)
About 1 tsp sugar
Enough water to make 1 1/2 cups total liquid
Place in sauce pan enamel or stainless, I do not like aluminum for this. Place over medium to low heat and cook stirring frequently until thick.
Add real mayonnaise after the egg mixture has cooled a little.
Use russet potatoes either peeled, or unpeeled if small and new.
