Recipe: Prayer Bars

PRAYER BARS

FIRST LAYER:

Mix together in double boiler and cook until slightly thickened:
1/2 cup butter, melted
4 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten (or pasteurized egg substitute)
1-2 tsp. vanilla

Remove from heat.
Combine and stir into first mixture:
2 cups crushed graham crackers
1 cup flaked coconut
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Press into bottom of 9x13-inch pan. Chill.

SECOND LAYER:

Cook together for one minute, stirring constantly:
1/4 cup butter, melted
3 tbsp. cream
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. dry vanilla pudding mix (not instant)

Remove from heat and mix in:
2 c. powdered sugar

Spread over first layer.

THIRD LAYER:

1 (9 3/4 oz.) chocolate bar, melted
OR
1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
1 tbsp. butter

Spread melted chocolate bar over top. Refrigerate.

Bring bars in pan to room temperature before cutting.
Store in refrigerator.
