Recipe: Substitution - cocoa for semisweet chips

According to my battered, old Joy of Cooking, 3 Tbsp cocoa plus 1 Tbsp fat (butter!) plus 4 tsp sugar equals 1 2/3 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate.

So if you multiply by 3, and use 1/2 cup plus 1 Tbsp cocoa, 3 Tbsp butter, and 1/4 cup sugar, that would equal 5 ouces of semi-sweet chocolate. I'm pretty sure I did that right. I hope you can do the math from there!

Maybe someone else has a neater substitution for a different amount?
