ISO: Beets w/onions & vinegar

Years ago I had a terrific recipe for canned beets (store kind) - the beets were served cold and had vinegar and onions along with a few other ingredients. I have since lost the recipe and can no longer remember the entire recipe or the amounts. I always made the beets in the summer and served them with other picnic foods - what a great dish - I always received terrific compliments!!

Sure could use some help here - Thanks!!
