ISO: Black Walnut Tree questions

Misc.
Hello everyone, I have just moved into a new home and it has a black walnut tree in the backyard. I would like to pick the black walnuts and use them in a recipe. Does anyone know how to prepare black walnuts for eating? Can you eat them? When should you pick them? Does anyone have a great recipe?

Best regards and good cooking
